They shelled Okhmatdyt. Fact-check of the attack on the children's hospital in Kyiv and the deanon of the Russian military

Today, on July 8, 2024, the Russians launched a massive shelling on Ukrainian territory. The enemy fired 38 missiles, of which 30 were shot down by Ukrainian air defense. The Russian military attacked Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk.

In particular, in Kyiv, the Russians deliberately targeted the children's hospital "Okhmatdyt." Molfar OSINT analysts managed to identify the names of the Russian military personnel from the military unit 06987 of the "Engels" airfield and military unit 33310 from Shaikovka.

A brief chronology of events on July 8, 2024, in Kyiv

Between 10:29 and 12:57 on July 8, 2024, there were two massive attacks that resulted in hits on the Kyiv children's hospital "Okhmatdyt." Additionally, fragments from a Russian missile damaged (1, 2) a hospital facility in the Dnipro district — the family outpatient clinic of the "Isida" maternity hospital. The Russians also destroyed (1, 2) three transformer substations in the Holosiivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts and damaged the entrance of a residential building in Syrets (1, 2, 3). As a result of the attack, a multi-story building and a business center (1, 2) on Ushynskyi Street were also damaged.

There were several hits on Okhmatdyt. The new oncology wing was damaged by a Kh-101 (1, 2) missile, which had a typical descending trajectory before impact and showed no visible damage, ruling out the Russian propaganda hypothesis of its prior engagement by air defense systems. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) found fragments of the Kh-101  (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) missile on the hospital grounds, including the rear section with the serial number and the tail rudder.

The carriers of such missiles are the Tu-22-M2, Tu-160, and Tu-95MS (1, 2) bombers. Specifically, the Tu-95MS is based at the Russian airbase Engels-2, near Smolensk, as Molfar has already published in an investigation. This publication will include updated data on the Russian military personnel from the Engels airbase.

The Okhmatdyt hospital's Telegram channel published videos of the strikes (1, 2) on the hospital wing, as well as testimony from a doctor who was injured during the attack while performing surgery. The old wing  (1, 2) of the hospital was also damaged. As a result of the attack, pediatric nephrologist Dr. Svitlana Lukianchuk (1, 2) was killed.

In total, Russia attacked Ukraine with 38 missiles on July 8, 2024, of which 30 were intercepted  (1, 2).

In March 2021, he was the commander of the Tu-22M3 and the only one of the four pilots to survive the incident at the Shaikovka airbase.
